January 2023

December ended on a really high note with some stellar days offshore. Some BIGGGGG Gags were caught even though I lost some days to weather.

December also holds some of the best duck hunting. many are unaware, but in the wintertime, this area gets a large migration of diver ducks like redheads, bluebills, and buffleheads. These hunts are all coastal hunts, where youre blinded up on a mangrove island or marshy area. Usually first light in the morning when theyโ€™ll leave their roost, or right before sunset when theyโ€™re headed in to rest. It took a little bit longer for it to cool off this winter, so the ducks werenโ€™t too active until the end of the month.

Fishing Crystal River in January will be fun! Ill still be doing some duck hunts, but on the water, ill be doing mangrove snapper and sheepshead trips. These trips youll be fishing in areas and using techniques similar to Gag grouper, just with much smaller baits. On a few charters last month, a common bycatch while grouper fishing were big mangrove snapper. 4-5lbs each, and they are fun to catch, and even better to eat!

I have availability next week for fishing (January 11th-13th) and the end of the month (January 29th-31st)

Give me a call or send me an email to book your next trip!
